Verified ReviewerYou are the most inconsiderate company! You can call any one of your phone lines & WILL NOT EVER talk to a real person. Your standards are not even up to a one. You have the worst customer service!
- Long hold times and difficulty reaching any department.
- Transfers between departments with unclear answers.
Your company is a joke! I will NEVER choose highmark again.
It's like you're not even trying! Your silly recording that says we're important to you. How can you wait for at least a half hour. I can't get through to anyone, not just one department, ALL OF THEM.
I guess our time means nothing to you. I get so stressed out when I have to call & ask a question. I usually have to plan an hour or two on hold just to talk to someone. They frequently don't know the answer.
That's when they start giving you other numbers to call or better yet, that's when they "connect" me to another dept. That is when you get hung up on & you have to start all over! Worst customer Service I've ever dealt with!
You make your millions & won't spend a dime on the very people that keep you in business. You are cheapskate to say the least.
User's recommendation: DO NOT CHOOSE THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY UNLESS YOU HAVE MEDICATION THAT CAN LOWER YOUR STRESS LEVELS!

Verified ReviewerTerrible Customer Experience
- Highmark refused my insulin prescription citing dosage info despite no change.
- I had to ration insulin for months with little insurer concern.
I have been a type 1, juvenile onset diabetic since I was seven years old. Within the last year Highmark Blue Shield has started refusing my insulin prescription every time I try to fill it stating they need the dosage information even though the dosage has never changed under my current physician.
This has forced me to ration insulin for months, to which Highmark has zero concern. Their customer service seems to exclusively be based outside the US and they have zero information about your plan when you call. Vultures like this company are the exact reason the country despises our insurance and Healthcare system.
They make arbitrary, capricious decisions with zero medical oversight, relying on bought doctors never held to account for their ghoulish push to process as many claims as possible since they are paid per review and not held medically liable for their decisions. Absolute garbage company, do not recommend, will be copying this review to every possible venue I can find for their company.
- Work provides it
- Non-us customer service
- Poor service
- Abysmal customer service
Preferred solution: For the company to show actual concern for their customers. For them to acknowledge that the reason the US passionately despises their industry is because of their own disgusting, callous behavior
User's recommendation: Don't give these vultures your money

Verified ReviewerCan never EVER talk to someone before 20 different departments tell me the call is not for them & then disconnect me while transferring the call. I can't even find a # to call for general questio
The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. Not one of these operators even know how to transfer a call.
I get sent to at least 5 people before I get hung up on. Hold times are absolutely ridiculous!
Constant denial of claims
- A lemon-sized tumor needs removal.
- They deny coverage as not medically necessary.
- I'm paying cash for treatment and feel uninsured.
If your employer offers this as health insurance, find another employer before you get sick. They deny everything and say it's not medically necessary.
I would think a lemon size tumor kind of needs to get removed. It's like I don't even have health insurance.
I've been paying cash just to get treatment since I don't really have insurance it appears. They deny everything.
User's recommendation: Find another employer if this is your health insurance.

User's recommendation: Get new employees that want to work
Can't pay bill
- Previously paid bills easily at the South Hills office.
- Now in-person payments are advertised but often fail; seven attempts in three months.
ALWAYS PAID BILL WITH EASE BY STOPPING IN THE SOUTH HILLS OFFICE. NOW EVEN THOUGH OPEN AND ADVERTISING YOU CAN MAKE PAYMENTS IN PERSON, EVERY ATTEMPT TO DO SO ENDS UP THAT THE SYSTEM IS DOWN. AFTER 7 ATTEMPTS IN THREE MONTH PERIOD, I FEEL SYSTEM IS NOT DOWN IT IS BROKEN AND THEY DON'T CARE.
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: NOT WORTH THE PRICE AND LACK OF SERVICE

Verified ReviewerNo Transparency or Accountability
- Highmark refuses to share basic information and limits rights.
- There is no ombudsman; policies are antiquated and not transparent.
Highmark refuses to share even basic information while abrogating your rights. There is no ombudsman and bad employees are in complete control of your case as you have no way to get information on how to reach anyone else.
They have antiquated policies that don't recognize electronic record keeping. Their processes are non transparent and they are not held to any accountability.
Preferred solution: Fair process
User's recommendation: Stay far, far away.
Poor Service
- Need medicine.
- Robo operator schedules a callback in six hours and fifteen minutes.
- New insurance has caused very poor service.
Need medicine. The robo operator will only schedule a call back six hours and fifteen minutes later.
I did speak to some one yesterday who continued to change his story. New insurance, very poor service.
Psychologist for Child
- Site lists psychologists who don’t take insurance.
- They require out-of-pocket payments.
- I asked to speak to a supervisor and was on hold 10 mins.
Went to there web sight called numerous psychologists they all say that they are not with insurances they pay out of pocket. So why are they on there sight.
Haven’t said anything but I need a psychologist for my son and told them what and the way my son was feeling.
The customer service rep. Threw HighMark BCBS said that’s all she can help me with is what’s on the we sight. I asked to speak to Supervisor and was on hold for 10 min. So I hung up.
I told her this was a life or death situation but she had no compation at all. “P” was the rep.
So not sure why they try to put it on me. I need help.
Pharmacy services
- Rite Aid can't fill the script; CVS or mail order.
- Doctor faxed the script 3 times; no confirmation.
- Out of Symbicort and Albuterol; ER visit.
2 weeks ago i went to fill my script at rite aid was informed by their pharmacy that they could no longer fill the script i would need to go to cvs ,since cvs locations were inconvenient for me i was told i could use mail order after 3 times of having my

Worst of the Worst - NEVER GET INSURANCE FROM HIGHMARK
- Paid December bill over $1,000; December claims not paid.
- Policy canceled Dec 1; I wasn't informed, and $1,040.22 for December wasn't returned.
I paid my December bill of over $1,000 and they were not paying my claims for December when I called them March 08th they said my policy was cancelled December 1st. They claim I owed them .48 cents - they never informed me they cancelled my policy - they had not intention of returning the 1,040.22 I sent them for the December bill - when asked why they did not return the money if they cancelled the policy - I received a lame answer of we can cut a check now.
Wait 4 months after you cancelled and never informed me. Refusing to pay any December Claims - have my money and cancelled my policy.
I guess since I did not renew insurance with them they decided they can try to take of advantage of me. WRONG PERSON TO MESS WITH!!!!
Preferred solution: Full refund
Insurance Expert Talks
Highmark bcbs
- Customer service is poor and callbacks are only at their convenience.
- They should offer 24-hour support.
Hope you don't ever need to contact their office unless it's before 430 pm worst customer service ever they need at their convenience if they happen to call you back which is very drought full how much trouble would it be to have customer service 24 hours a day to help with questions hope this place goes bankrupt and burns downtown bad this lace doesn't care about individual just to collect your money and denie all possible clamps that it can hopefully you never get sick and have to use this they are pitiful and never answer the phone unless at a whim somebody does an a dare or accident
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
Pissed off company needs Physicians health
- Poor customer service and unhelpful employees.
- 12 days without medication due to form issues.
- High deductible and limited plan choices.
I could not believe the crap of customer service and laziness of these employees to Simply put in one form in the computer I have gone 12 days without medication there should be a law against that and my husband is still paying for it with his company for this health insurance it's garbage no matter what plan you choose the deductible so high good luck reaching it so you're absolutely paying for nothing there are more choices out there to offer employees that should not be limited to just three choices of the same company!!
Unsatisfactory
I have spend hours on the phone trying to get assistance for my mothers bills. No calls back.
No calls to nursing home. I have never had such a difficult time with an insurance company. Would no recommend. Agents are nice but you never get the same one.
My records of calls and there’s differ. Just one difficulty after another. Not sure what you need 100 words for. Just not happy and plan to change insurance.
Would never recommend. Thank you for all. Thank you for the opportunity to vent.
Thank you all again. Thank you for your understanding, can you offer any assistance?
Preferred solution: Full refund
